Nikki Yanofsky’s Boppin Single ‘Something New’ (Video)

If you’ve been turned on to the UK sensation John Newman this year, with is soul-pop style for his number one hit “Love Me Again“, then we have another reason for you get happy. Her name is Nikki Yanofsky and she’s dropped an infectious 50’s style pop single called “Something New”. Somebody slip another quarter in the jukebox, cause you’re gonna want to spin this thing a few times. The Canadian singer/songwriter makes this retro jazz-pop treat, fun and relevant in mainstream pop. “Something New” is catchy, fun and destined to become a hit.

The landscape is changing my friends. What Buble, Adele and John Newman more recently have done to make bluesy, jazz music acceptable, within the confinements of pop, Nikki Yanofsky keeps it going here in her latest release. The Montreal born 19 year old is not new to music or performing. Nikki has sang along side greats like Celine Dion, Stevie Wonder and even Wyclef Jean from the Black Eyed Peas. In 2010 her song “I Believe” went number one on the Canadian Hot 100 and was certified Quadruple Platinum for digital downloads. Her new single is off of her upcoming album Little Secrets due out later this year.

In the video, the idea that this song fits in today’s pop scene, is played out when a young male filming, see’s everyone in 50’s attire through the view lens. Jumping back and forth from the current to yesteryear, Nikki’s boppin pop track proves itself timeless. Homage to Quincy Jones, who Yanofsky signed with this year, is made with a photo of the producer seen on the mantel piece in the video.

Her second studio album is coming soon and is set to have a few covers along with Nikki’s own original material. There are many directions this young artist can go with her vocal range. A duet with say Adele or the new UK star John Newman would be amazing. It’s a great way to start the week and we’ll be groovin to this song for quite some time – Our song of the day for September 30th, 2013.
