The Voice Season Five Returns With The Fab Four

The Voice Season Five Returns With The Fab Four

They’re Baaaack! Last night (Sept 23) the original judges for NBC’s The Voice reunited for the fifth season. Promising the best line up of talent the show has seen, coaches Adam Levine, Christina Aguilera, CeeLo Green and Blake Shelton are back for another highly anticipated show. Joined by the ongoing host Carson Daily, it didn’t take long for the dynamic that happens between these four stars to manifest. As CeeLo Green stated in his pre-show interview about his return to The Voice, he missed that “camaraderie and closeness” that the four stars had together and that fans wanted to see that again as well.

The premiere was full laugh out loud moments, as the judges battled among themselves to get contestants on their teams. Levine seemed to run the comedic side of things, along with his partner in crime Blake Shelton.

Another of the returning judges, Pop star Christina Aguilera, showed up to the show looking quite different than she did back in season three. The “Genie In A Bottle” singer has gotten in shape and lost weight and it showed. She recently told Jay Leno “I’m 32 and I feel sexier than ever”. She seemed energized to be back and this time around made sure to point out, that they even though they have to fight it out once and awhile, the judges still love each other. It’s a long season Christina, might want to take that back.

The night held some pretty impressive talent and its fair share of “Wow, their good” moments. The most notable were contestants like Caroline Pennell who song her own version of Ellie Goulding’s, “Anything Could Happen”. The smiling 17 year old will join team CeeLo. Kat Robichaud used her husky voice to belt out “I’ve Got The Music In Me” and she also will join the Green side. While Shelbie Z, Donna Allen, Matthew Schuler and Josh Logan were all great as well and joined their winning judges, two male singers stood out among the pack.

James Wolpert and Nic Hawk delivered powerful performances and really fit the bill, for not looking like they should sing the way they do. This is when the hold idea of the judges not being able to see the contestants before they choose, proves golden. James Wolpert, who at first glance looks like he belongs…well he actually did work in an ©Apple store, sang a unique and unexpected rendition of “Love Interruption”. He got all four judges to turn and a standing ovation from Adam and CeeLo.

The star of the night was the former traveling theater performer and now dance teacher from Iowa, Nic Hawk. He not only won the crowd over with his singing, but his banter with Adam Levine as well. Singing “Hit ‘Em Up Style” only two judges turned, Adam and Green. The real attraction was his interesting interaction with the always cool Maroon 5 frontman. Expect more to come, now that he’s picked Levine as his coach.
