LAYLA – A New Look and A New Single ‘Yellow Circles’ Scores

Singer/songwriter LAYLA,  from South East End London, released a new single and video yesterday (October 6th) titled “Yellow Circles”. Formerly known as Jose Vanders – she changed things up a bit at the start of the year and decided to rename herself as LAYLA.  The UK singer has had her moments of attention throughout the years, which have even included notice from Perez Hilton back in 2007. She’s performed along side artists like Ed Sheeran, Ben Howard and Noah and the Whale and self-released several EP’s.

Her latest single follows her most recent EP The New Year, which reached number one on iTunes New and Noteworthy Releases for that week. With most of her previous work falling into the indie-folk realm with lots of melancholy ballads, “Yellow Circles” turns more in the direction of Florence and The Machine. LAYLA’s vocals are more driving in this drum filled track than what we’ve experienced before and we must say, it fits her well. Her bluesy voice is simply pristine in this swirling track and we love all the background stuff going on; tribal drums, tinkling bells and a really well timed shout.

The video Directed by Daniel Broadley is funky, cool and definitely a step in the right direction to bring LAYLA where she deserves to be; right in the middle of the pop scene. We like the new Vanders and will refer to her in all our future post (fingers crossed) as LAYLA. Enjoy our song of the day for October 7th, 2013.
