The Voice: Kaley Cuoco Shows Up To Support Her Sister

The third night of the blind auditions for The Voice season 5, were under way on Monday, with twelve more contestants being added to the teams. The main feel of the night was a little lackluster in vocal ability, but several did show promise. There were shaky voices and notes that never fully reached their marks, but it was 16 year old Juhi, that stole the show for us.

Singing “Mercy” by Duffy, the 16 year old was spot on vocally and made it look easy. Turning the chairs of CeeLo and Christina Aguilera, both pushed hard, for probably the most naturally talented performer of the night. With Xtina standing with open arms strecthed out and Green stating “I will fight for you” everyone seemed surprised when it was team CeeLo that won the prize.

Justin Blake took a big step when he came out singing a cover of Blake Shelton’s song, “Sure Be Cool If You Did”. His fellow judges were surprised that Blake didn’t turn around for the soon to be father singing country. Adam got a big laugh when he admitted that he didn’t even know it was one of Shelton’s songs. Since he was the only one to turn his seat, Justin will have Levine as his coach.

Oh what boys will do for girls. Blake and Adam laid it out thick for the tall pretty young lady Monika Leigh, after she song a soulful “The Thrill is Gone”. Blake started out by saying “I want to build my team around you“, only to be followed up by Levine with “I would consider you to be the centerpiece of my team“. Feeling challenged, Shelton had only one final trick up his sleeve, “I can give you three reasons why you should pick me” he then reached down and pulled out all three of his winning trophies. It’s the one thing you cannot deny and the one thing the other three are starting to despise. Of course, he won and team Blake racked up another great singer.

There was another sad montage during the show. That’s the part were a few unlucky contestants don’t get to have their entire performance shown on the nights television episode. This time there were three and the snippets we did hear, didn’t really stand out above the rest. Team CeeLo picked up 18 year old Anthony Paul. Blake Shelton snagged up Cilla Chan and rocker Jacob Poole had to go with Christina, the only judge to turn a chair. We’ll have to wait for the battle rounds to find out just how good they are.

The part of the show that most likely had viewers at home saying “why does she need to be on here“, was when Briana, the sister of Kaley Cuoco from the television series The Big Bang Theory, took the stage to sing “You and I”. At first it looked like none of the judges were going to turn around, even though backstage Kaley was screaming for someone to respond. Her performance seemed shaky and week at the start, but did finally show some signs of strength near the end. That’s when Christina pounced. Within seconds of the songs close, Ceelo spun around as well.

Backstage Briana’s older sister was estatic and brought to tears as the judges expressed their thoughts on her performance. She picked the pop diva as her coach, being the first of four additions to team XTina for the night.

Several of the singers struggled to lay out a clean vocal during the night and even though it resulted in a less than perfect performance, they still ended up on one of the four teams. George Horga Jr, the Romanian born young man who moved to Hollywood to chase his dream of being famous, didn’t seem pleased with himself either when the music ended. CeeLo heard something and the dream is still alive for now. Team Christina added 15 year old Timyra Joi and Blake picked up Ray Boudreaux, after his bluesy rendition of “Use Me”.

Christina was on a roll during the night, turning her chair more than viewers are used to. The nights most unique vocal came from a former teen model and classically trained singer, Lina Gaudenzi. There was a big push by Blake Shelton to have Lina choose his team, even reminding use all again for the hundredth time, how many times he’s won the competition. In a surprise change, Adam Levine came to team Xtina’s aid and championed for her cause saying, “Christina saw it first and should be rewarded for that damn it“. Sorry Christina but you’ll have to thank Adam for that one.

Out of the men, it was former Christian rocker Preston Pohl who stood out, for his strong bluesy version of “Electric Feel”. Aguilera decided to be the loner this time around and sat with her back turned to the stage. “I am going to be very, very angry if I don’t get you on my team” Levine stated as he pounded on his button. The ever vigilant Adam got his wish and topped his team count off at seven for the night.

Tuesday will bring new faces and hopefully more great talent. All three of the male judges need five to complete their teams, with Christina only needing four. At this stage Adam’s strongest contestant so far is Nic Hawk from week one. Blake has a few, but Holly Henry is the stand out. Team XTina in our opinion at the moment is the weakest, which leaves CeeLo who looks to have the biggest pool of talent.

The Voice airs Monday’s and Tuesday’s 8/7c on NBC.
