Stars Perform At 81st Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting

They’ve been doing it now since 1933 and every year is treated like the first. The Mayor of New York, Michael Bloomberg, lit the 76 foot Christmas tree at the famous Rockefeller Center last night, which was covered with 45,000 multi-colored LED lights and a 9 ½-foot-wide Swarovski star. The event was televised on NBC as Christmas in Rockefeller Center and was dedicated to a former light and sound expert who worked on the tree and lost his life in the recent commuter train derailment in the Bronx, this past Sunday. He was on his way to work on the tree when the accident occurred.

As always, there were stars present and music. Mariah Carey was among the big name singers who took the stage, not once but twice! Wearing two different long, figure hugging gowns, she sang “All I Want For Christmas Is You” in Red and “Joy to the World” in white.

The 43 year old looked fabulous in both gowns and took center stage, opening and closing the event.

British singer Leona Lewis performed the classic “White Christmas” and her new song “One More Sleep”. See the official music video below.

“One More Sleep” is off of Leona’s new Christmas Album, Christmas With Love, out now.

Country singer Jewel wore a beautiful gold sequined gown for her performance during the show.

Mary J. Blige and country singer Lauren Alaina were also among the female artists who sang. Keeping things in balance, the all male rockers the Goo Goo Dolls also made merry with the crowd.
