Lorde Releases New Song “Yellow Flicker Beat” For Mockingjay Soundtrack

She was pegged as the curator for the soundtrack to The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 earlier this year and today she’s released her own contribution titled, “Yellow Flicker Beat”. The brooding single may not seem like the kind of song to float well on Pop channels at first, but once the chorus kicks in, you can’t help but love it.

Although the other artists to appear along side her own work on the upcoming soundtrack have yet to be mentioned, there is not doubt that the teenage singer/songwriter will compile something fit for the series.

Commenting on her Tumblr account about the new single, Lorde posted “It’s my first offering from what I hope will be a soundtrack you love. It’s my attempt at getting inside her head, Katniss. I hope you like it.”

The highly anticipated single offers an intriguing glimpse into what has become one of the most talked about soundtracks of 2014. Co-produced by fellow GRAMMY® Award-winners Paul Epworth and Joel Little, “Yellow Flicker Beat” is Lorde’s third official U.S single. Her quadruple platinum selling single “Royals” helped earn two Billboard Music Awards for ‘Best New Artist’ and ‘Best Rock Song,’ and two GRAMMY® Awards for ‘Song of the Year’ and ‘Best Pop Solo Performance.’ She currently holds the record for ‘Longest #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 by a Female Artist in 2013’ and longest standing #1 for any female artist in the Billboard Alternative Chart history.

The single is available now on iTunes and Spotify.
