Actress Videoed Getting Harassed Over 100 Times By Men Just Walking Down The Street

To some it may seem harmless, the occasional catcall to a pretty lady spotted in your days routine. We all know it happens, but you probably never saw it from the viewpoint demonstrated in a newly released video from Rob Bliss Creative, for the anti-street harassment organization Hollaback!

24 year old Shoshana Roberts, an aspiring actress from New York City volunteered to join Rob Bliss to help him film the video, after he was inspired when his girlfriend experienced catcalls from men. The video has become part of Hollaback!’s campaign to end street harassment and already appears to have hit a chord with it’s viewers.

catcalls to woman in video

During a ten hour period, Shoshana simply walks down the street through different neighborhoods in New York city, without speaking a word. Dressed in a dark pair of jeans and a crew t-shirt, she ends up receiving over 100 catcalls and some sketchy encounters. As the organization states on it’s website, it is an issue of great concern:

The experience of street harassment is different for everyone. Street harassment disproportionately impacts women, people of color, LGBTQ individuals, and young people. Although the degree to which Shoshana gets harassed is shocking — the reality is that the harassment that people of color and LGBTQ individuals face is oftentimes more severe and more likely to escalate into violence. These forms of harassment are not just sexist — but also racist and homophobic in nature“.

Outside of the many calls to the young actress during her walk, there were a few times when even her personal space was violated. The abuse didn’t stop after the film was wrapped either. Soon after the video was released, according to Hollaback!’s Twitter account the actress starting recieving rape threats online.
