Director Sam Mendes made the big announcement today from Pinewood Studios in London, that the next James Bond film (the 24th in the franchise), will be called, Spectre. Fans will be familiar with the name, which stands for the global terrorist group – Special Executive for Counter-intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge, and Extortion.

Following a short video montage of scenes from the Daniel Craig Bond films, Mendes stood in front of a large screen as the letters slowly filled in with Bond music playing along, spelling the name out and ending with a bullet hole appearing in it’s center; as if shot through glass. The new film follows double O as a cryptic message from Bond’s past sends him on a trail to uncover a sinister organisation. While M battles political forces to keep the secret service alive, Bond peels back the layers of deceit to reveal the terrible truth behind SPECTRE.

The first teaser poster was also revealed, with the franchise Twitter feed also posting photos of the cast during the live broadcast. Although the days of seeing Judi Dench as ‘M’ are over, no one will have to worry about Daniel Craig filling the role of secret agent number 007. Along with Craig, fans will see returning actors Ralph Fiennes – the new ‘M’, Ben Whishaw as ‘Q’, Naomie Harris as Eve Moneypenny and Rory Kinnear as Bill Tanner, the MI6 Chief of Staff .
Some of the exciting news this morning from Mr. Mendes, was the line-up of newcomers and of course the Villain. The role of Spectre’s bad guy goes to Andrew Scott (Sherlock Holmes) who will play Denbigh. Christoph Waltz will join the cast as Oberhauser, David Bautista as Mr Hinx. In the Bond girls category (what’s Bond without sexy women?), is the sexy Léa Seydoux (Blue Is The Warmest Colour) as Madeleine Swann and the eternally alluring Monica Bellucci, as Lucia Sciarra.
Another well recognized piece of the Bond empire is also returning in the upcoming film…the car – The Aston Martin. You may recall it got quite the beating in Skyfall, but returns as oo’s car of choice; in an updated version of course. The British car manufacturer worked with the production team to make a car specifically for the Bond film. It is a limited edition with only 10 units being made, as reported by the company. Dr Andy Palmer, CEO of Aston Martin, said: “In the same year that we celebrate our 50-year relationship with 007, it seems doubly fitting that today we unveiled this wonderful new sports car created especially for James Bond.
By the sound of the many beautiful locations Bond will be filmed, we can expect a backdrop of blue skies and spectacular scenery, as James takes on all those baddies. Like Casino Royale, it will probably look awesome on Blueray once it hits the dvd format. Director Sam Mendes told the crowd at Pinewood that filming is underway and will see Daniel and the crew in London, Mexico City, Rome, Tangier & Erfoud, Morocco, Sölden, Obertilliach and Lake Altausee, Austria. Yes, James Bond returns to the Alps.
The entire writing team of Skyfall are back, which should mean an exciting storyline. The expected release date is set for November 6th 2015. Can’t wait! Check out our video of interviews from the cast of Spectre during today’s event below:
