Social Media & Stardom Can Ruin A Girl In Jem and The Holograms Trailer

What happens when your friends upload a video of you singing (really good) on social media? You get a record contract, become a big star and then your whole life is ruined.

In the new ‘Jem and The Holograms’ trailer from Universal Pictures, that seems to be the case. Kinda like what happened with music stars like Justin Bieber – one minute you’re uploading videos of yourself singing on a sidewalk and before you know it, you’ve become a millionaire fame machine that nobody likes anymore.

There are millions of teenage kids looking to become something big on YouTube, everyday. As Jerrica Benton/Jem (played by Aubrey Shea Peeples from TV’s Nashville) says in the trailer for ‘Jem and The Holograms’, “at some point we all wish we could just become someone else“.

Unlike the movie ‘Unfriended’ where schoolmates upload a video of you at your worst, turning you into a crazed murderer out for revenge – here the outcome is getting noticed and becoming a pop star. Along the way you become a jerk, loose your friends and focus, only to finally see the error of your ways and make it all right. (They show way to much in trailers nowadays).
