Box Office: Spy Beats The Rock and The Boys of Entourage

Melissa McCarthy toppled The Rock from his perch and proved to have more drawing power than an Entourage of handsome males this weekend, when her film ‘SPY’ took the number one spot. The 20th Century Fox action comedy, which also starred Jason Statham and Jude Law, captured an estimated $30 million during its debut opening.

Even though San Andreas got dropped to second place, the fall wasn’t that far. The Dwayne Johnson blockbuster continues to do better than projected, with its weekend estimates at $26.4 million – for a total $99 million since it hit theaters last week.

Fear beat out the five handsome guys of Entourage, when Insidious 3 cashed in a whole $12.5 million more, than the HBO TV series turned movie. Meaning that the whipping Entourage took from citics rang true in box office attendance; placing Insidious in third and the Doug Ellin directed comedy-drama in fourth. Even with an early debut on Wednesday, Entourage still fell short of the Focus Features horror show by $5.2 million, according to RENTRAK domestic estimates.
