The Voice Contestant Anthony Riley Dies at 28

It was the fastest chair turn around by judges on NBC’s The Voice, since the singing competition started eight seasons ago. Street performer Anthony Riley had them interested the moment he clicked his feet on the stage. By the time he got out the first few lyrics of “I Feel Good” by James Brown, all four judges had turned around. Sadly, this weekend the Philadelphia Inquirer has reported that the 28 year old street performer has taken his own life.

Anthony, who was a well known street performer in Philadelphia, chose Pharrell as his coach during the latest edition of The Voice Season 8. He made it all the way to the knockout rounds, when he suddenly withdrew from the competition.

He eventually revealed to the Philadelphia Inquirer that he had left the show, to admit himself into a two-week rehab program for substance abuse. Philly.com reports that the young singer was found dead Friday, in the basement of the apartment where he was staying.
