A Good Movie To Watch Tonight: ‘Far From The Madding Crowd’ Starring Carey Mulligan

Looking for a good movie to watch tonight? If you’re in the mood for a period based romance story, we think you’ll enjoy watching Carey Mulligan in 20th Century Fox’s, Far From The Madding Crowd.

You may remember Carey from movies like, Never Let Me Go, The Great Gatsby, An Education and most recently, Suffragette.

In the film her three suitors are played by the handsome Matthias Schoenaerts, hugely talented and award winning actor Michael Sheen and Tom Sturridge.

Reasons To Watch ‘Far From The Madding Crowd’

Period Drama – Based in 1870 Victorian Britain, the film follows a period in the life of its main character, Bathsheba Everdene – a very independent woman for her day and a farmer.

If you’re a fan of shows like Downton Abbey, films similar to Pride & Prejudice and the like, Far From The Madding Crowd is right up your alley. Scenes indoors and out are beautifully done. The costumes, props and working features in the movie create a pleasing visual experience throughout.

Based On A Famous Novel – The David Nicholls written screenplay is based on the famous 1874 novel of the same name, by Thomas Hardy.

Romance – Although there is a large focus on the “independence” of the main character in the 2015 version of Far From The Madding Crowd, the theme of the story is ultimately about three men after the same woman.

Similar to films where, the guy you are rooting for the girl to love, ends up doing something to drive her away, here the story-line takes several turns leaving you wondering till the very end, what the outcome will be.

Carey Mulligan does a great job of showing the struggle her character has with wanting to stand on her own two feet without the help of a man, and at the same time not wanting to be alone.

The three males actors who play Ms. Everdene’s suitors give great performances. You will love two and despise the other.

Emotional Expectations– This one is pretty easy. Even with all the pomp and circumstance of the time period, you will find moments humorous. The varying situations during Bathsheba’s multiple encounters with the men around her, will have you moving from anger, to frustration, and times of sadness. Joy? Hope? You’ll have to watch it to find out.

There is one scene that will make you gasp; which is one of those twists in the story that gives it a good interesting jolt.

Far from the madding crowd

How we rate it – Forget the stars and all that thumbs up, thumbs down stuff. Far From The Madding Crowd is a solid film. Although some films with slow building romances can get long, that doesn’t happen here. Each story within the story is interesting and the scenery is very pleasing to the eye.

We think you’ll find a place for it among the classics.

When To Watch – Great movie for lovers, or any age adult. Perfect for a rainy day or later in the evening curled up in bed with a warm blanket and a cup of English tea.

So if you’re looking for ‘A Good Movie To Watch Tonight’, try Far From The Madding Crowd.
