Star Trek Beyond Goes To Dubai To Film

“Star Trek Beyond”, the third movie in the reboot of the science-fiction series, is now filming in Dubai. The production team chose the most luxurious city in United Arab Emirates, for its “vertical” layout. Jeffrey Chernov, one of the film’s executive producers said, “We came searching for the future and found it”.

September 30th, some of the main cast members, along with writer Douglas Jung gathered in the ballroom of the Burj Al Arab – the third largest hotel in the world – for the Star Trek Beyond press conference.

Star Trek Beyond is the sequel to 2013’s Star Trek Into Darkness. Interestingly, one returning cast member, Simon Pegg is also a co-writer for the films screenplay. J.J. Abrams is producing, but due to his time being taken up with that other famous series, Star Wars, the job of directing is in the hands of Justin Lin. Abrams directed the previous two films.

Chris Pine who plays Captain James T. Kirk in the reboot series, commented on the city saying “I always love discovering new places and this is such a stunning city. I woke up this morning and I opened up the blinds and it looked like whatever tomorrow would be; it;s future-land and incredible”.

Simon Pegg explained that when they began the task of writing for the film, they knew they’d be writing it for the 50th anniversary. He said, “it had to embrace what is fundemental to Star Trek, but we’re also making a new Star Trek and the film industry is forever changing. The challenge was to marry to two; the traditional Star Trek that everyone grew up watching and our Star Trek”.
