New Series With Rob Lowe ‘You, Me and the Apocalypse” On NBC

Rob Lowe is back to the funny business, in NBC’s upcoming comedy-drama mini-series ‘You, Me and the Apocalypse’. Debuting on January 28th, the ten episode series has already been a hit in the UK, with The London Times calling it, “a pitch-perfect mix of excitement and silliness“.

As you can see by the show’s title, the story centers around the end of the world. Specifically, the final 34 days leading up to the Earths collision with a huge comet and the happenings in the lives of a small group of misfits.

The show begins with the unlikely gathering of oddballs together underground, in a bunker beneath the Earth watching it all on the television. Just how this strange group of people got lucky enough to get into the bunker is what the rest of the series is about. From there the story backs up 34 days prior and all of the characters stories play out; hopefully to viewers amusement.

You, Me and the Apocalypse (Official Trailer)

Rob Lowe plays the foul mouthed, vice enjoying priest, Father Jude. He is joined by fellow US television stars, Jenna Fischer (The Office) and Megan Mullally (Will & Grace). For many here in the States, the remaining characters have done most of their work in the UK; Mathew Baynton, Joel Fry, Pauline Quirke, Kyle Soller, Gaia Scodellaro and Paterson Joseph.

A key character of the series, Jamie Winton is played by English actor/writer Mathew Baynton. It’s not the only part he plays; there’s his estranged twin brother Ariel Conroy as well. Be prepared to add Baynton to your 2016 list of new favorite actors – you’ll see and hear a lot from him in You, Me and the Apocalypse.

Although the show promises fun, remember there’s also some drama. As Jenna Fischer said in a behind the scene interview before the show’s premiere in the UK, “the beautiful thing about the project is that, it brings unlikely people together and then they grow from it“. A point The Guardian referenced in their review when they said the “…show is full of intricate plotting and great sight gags, but also manages to be a moving drama about loneliness“.

“You, Me and the Apocalypse” is written and executive produced by Iain Hollands. Juliette Howell, Lynn Horsford, Tim Bevan (“The Theory of Everything”), Eric Fellner (“Fargo”), JoAnn Alfano, Cameron Roach, Lizzie Gray and Andrew Conrad also serve as executive producers.

You, Me and the Apocalypse Premieres Thursday, Jan. 28 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
