The BFG Is Steven Spielberg’s First Walt Disney Film And He’s Very Proud of That

As the Big Friendly Giant in the upcoming film The BFG says, “Hold your breath, cross our fingers, here we go” – the time for Steven Spielberg’s film adaptation of the classic 1982 novel by Roald Dahl is finally here. July 1st, the 69-year-old Academy Award winning director’s first movie filmed for Walt Disney Studios, opens in theaters across the US.

Although Steven has had works released through Disney in the past, this is the first time he has directed a film for the studio.

Disney’s The BFG tells the story of an orphan girl who gets taken away to Giant Country by a big friendly giant. The two set out on an adventure to deal the giants that are out to eat humans.

This latest film by Spielberg is the 32nd film he has directed in his 40 plus year career. Steven recently sat down and shared his thoughts on being able to work with Walt Disney Studios in a behind the scenes video.

The BFG book, which is a well-loved classic in the United Kingdom, was released by Roald Dahl in 1982. The best selling book was dedicated to the authors daughter Olivia, who died of measles encephalitis at age seven.

“The BFG” opens nationwide Friday July 1st.
