The Mummy Starring Tom Cruise Will Have You Calling For Mommy

After watching the first official trailer for Universal Pictures The Mummy, one thing is clear; this reboot may have you calling for your mommy.

The film stars Tom Cruise, Sofia Boutella, Annabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson, Courtney B. Vance and Russell Crowe and is set in the present day.

The Alex Kurtzman directed action/horror film is the first movie to be part of the Universal Monsters Shared Universe, which is similar to the Marvel Universe. Universal is set to begin the resurrection of their classic movie monsters like The Invisible Man, The Wolf Man, Count Dracula, Frankenstein’s monster and more, starting with The Mummy.

Russell Crowe plays Dr. Henry Jekyll in The Mummy, a role that will also be expanded upon within the Universal Monsters Shared Universe.

The Mummy Trailer

For now, the debut trailer has Cruise looking very “Mission Impossible” like as military commando Nick Morton. The scenes go in a direction you don’t expect (which would be hokey mummy stuff), with loads of action and dark scenes that are sure to make your hair stand-up while watching in a dark theater.

The official word on The Mummy from Universal Pictures:

Tom Cruise headlines a spectacular, all-new cinematic version of the legend that has fascinated cultures all over the world since the dawn of civilization: The Mummy.

Thought safely entombed in a tomb deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient princess (Sofia Boutella of Kingsman: The Secret Service and Star Trek Beyond) whose destiny was unjustly taken from her is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension.

From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters.
