Gates Open At Glastonbury Festival 2013

Glastonbury-The Largest of its kind in the world

Today, June 26th the gates opened to the largest openfield music and performing art festival in the world, Glastonbury! Started in 1970 by a farmer named Michael Eavis, the festival has continued almost every year along with Michael as its organizer, who is 77. This years festival is sold out and tickets for next years go on sale in October. If you have never seen the Glastonbury Festival it is a sight to behold. This year they are expecting around 175,000 people to attend. The event covers almost 1,000 acres of land and is divided up into sections with each delivering a different type of entertainment. There are the main stages that will host headlining acts like the Rolling Stones and Artic Monkeys, along with multiple lesser known bands on smaller stages from every genre. There is theater and comedy, areas for children and dance, totaling around 2,000 performances at 50 venues. The Festival runs from Wednesday the 26th to Sunday June 30th.

The top billing bands this year are impressive, and include: The Rolling Stones, Artic Monkeys, Mumford & Sons, Rita Ora, Of Monsters and Men, Vampire Weekend, The 1975, Smashing Pumpkins and so many more. The band Mumford & Sons has stated that their bassist will be in top shape and ready to play, after having emergency surgery earlier this month due to a blood clot in his brain. They are also expecting dryer weather this year which will be a change, since many of the past get together’s have included much rain and mud. The festival took a break last year due to the Olympics being in Britain.
