Foy Vance “Closed Hand, Full of Friends” Gives You Goosebumps

Goosebumps? Hell, I had hair standing on top the goosebumps after the first minute into this amazing track from Foy Vance. “Closed hand, Full of Friends”, off his sophomore album Joy of Nothing, released on Glassnote this past August, feels like Jim Croce meets Bruce Springsteen. The story may not be fully understood and the flag might be flying for a different country, but you feel the passion for both.

Immediately you’re pulled in by the ticking heartbeat of piano and bass drum. Strings step in, Vance churns out his heartfelt, passionate vocal and everything moves heavenward. The Irish born son of a preacher, Foy creates a rising energy of sound and emotion that leans towards a near religious experience. And that’s just one song off the album!

Foy has toured with the likes of Bonnie Raitt, Michael Kiwanuka, Marcus Foster, Snow Patrol, and Ed Sheeran, who appears on the song “Guiding Light” from the new record. Presently Vance is in our backyard here in the States, headlining shows up until the second week of November, when he returns to the UK. You know we don’t do this often, but Joy of Nothing is one album where every track could be a personal favorite.

If you’re feeling down this Monday and need a little inspiration, here it is; our featured song of the day for October 21st, 2013 “Closed Hand, Full of Friends” by Foy Vance. Hell, we may just make it our song of the week! We’re not done with Foy Vance, that’s for sure…more to come.
