American Idol Returns With New Judges For Season 13

American Idol Returns With New Judges For Season 13

While we’re waiting to see what becomes of the winners of this years, The Voice and The X-Factor, the most famous music competition of them all, American Idol, will be starting its 13th Season on Fox this January. Boasting 408 #1 hits, 19 platinum albums, 11 Grammys, an Academy Award and being a #1 television show for nine consecutive seasons, Idol leaves last season maintaining itself as a top 5 program.

Last years winner Candice Glover, has since released two singles off of her yet to be available debut album Music Speaks. Although using the iTunes Charts following music competitions, can give an unrealistic view as to an artists true impact, Glover’s pre-order for the new record reached number 4 on their Top Albums chart in October. Hopefully she’ll make her mark before a new winner is crowned for Season 13.

American Idol Season 13 Judges Panel

The judges panel will look a little different this year and probably have a little less drama as well. Grammy Award-winning and platinum-selling recording artist, actress, movie and television producer and entrepreneur Jennifer Lopez returns to AMERICAN IDOL XIII as a judge. Lopez will be joined by Grammy- and Emmy Award-winning multi-platinum singer, musician, songwriter, composer and film/television and Broadway actor Harry Connick, Jr. The two will sit on the IDOL judges’ panel with previously announced judge Keith Urban, the four-time Grammy Award-winning country artist who has sold more than 15 million albums.

Rounding out the team is IDOL veteran Randy Jackson, who will lend his industry and IDOL expertise to the contestants as an in-house mentor. Once again, the team will be led by Emmy Award-nominated host Ryan Seacrest.

Chairman of Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company Kevin Reilly commented about the panel earlier this summer saying, “AMERICAN IDOL has always been about discovering the next singing superstar, and next season our judging panel will deliver a most impressive combination of talent, wisdom and personality to do just that: Jennifer Lopez, the triple-threat global superstar who loves IDOL and whom IDOL fans love; Harry Connick, Jr., a bona-fide musical genius and fantastic IDOL mentor whose honesty and expertise can help turn these hopefuls into stars; Keith Urban, a multi-Grammy-winning artist who was such a positive force on the show last season. We are also very excited to have our friend Randy Jackson now in a new role as mentor, and the captain of our team – the heart and soul of IDOL – Ryan Seacrest returning as host.

“I think this season of IDOL is gonna be a blast,” said Keith Urban. New team, new energy and a whole new field of artists to be discovered and given a chance!” Do you think he’ll miss the drama between last years judges, Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj?

“I have always been a huge fan of AMERICAN IDOL and really enjoyed my time as a mentor on the show,” said Harry Connick, Jr. “And I am honored that they’ve asked me to be a judge this season. As an entertainer, I am truly excited to bring my perspective to AMERICAN IDOL, and to help emerging performers find their way.” Question will be, is the crooner going to be the heavy for this years competition?

Jennifer Lopez tweeted “#IDOL2014TheRemix…See ya Soon” on her Twitter account in September and “This is going to be FUN” later in the month. The singer left the show after Season 11, having served as a judge for two.

Out of all the televised music competitions, Idol has the most names to drop from its list of winners, who have actually become hit makers. The biggest of all would be Season 4 winner, Carrie Underwood, with Kelly Clarkson in a close second. Chris Daughtry and Jennifer Hudson showed you didn’t have to win in order to get a record deal and reach the top 40.

Auditions began on August 15th, with a five-town mobile tour offering hopefuls a chance to audition for AMERICAN IDOL XIII. The “AMERICAN IDOL Audition Bus Tour” stopped at Little Rock, AR, Oxford, MS, Tuscaloosa, AL, Knoxville, TN and Chapel Hill, NC. In addition auditions were also held in Utah, California, Michigan, Georgia, Massachusetts, Texas and Nebraska.

Although the show is about finding a winning contestant, who can go on to be a star, the chemistry between judges can be just as important, when it comes to ratings. Showing some tough love and honesty is also necessary if you want to be taken seriously. With so many new shows popping up that showcase singing, Idol’s panel of judges will have to walk that line between entertaining and helping discover real talent.
