Ed Sheeran Attends ‘The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug LA Premiere

The ever popular ginger singer, Ed Sheeran took up a different kind of performance last night at the LA premiere of, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug; walking the red carpet. The ‘Lego House’ singer/songwriter does not appear in the upcoming film, but he did play a small part on the movies soundtrack. Ed wrote and sang the closing credits song ‘I See Fire’ after he was approached by director Peter Jackson. Ed had his usual timid look in front of the cameras, wearing an all black tux and sneakers.

Jackson wrote on his Facebook following the announcement that Sheeran would perform the song, stating “We have a tradition in our Tolkien films of having a song over the closing credits. It’s very important that the song feels right for the world of the movie – and also carries the emotional resonance of the end of that particular film. The Desolation of Smaug is no different. The ending of this film requires a voice and sensibility that will allow an viewer to process what they have just experienced. It’s always tricky to think of the right person to create and performance these songs. Someone who shares our passion for Tolkien, and somebody who is prepared to respect the film. This year we are thrilled to have Ed Sheeran write and perform our closing song, “I See Fire”.

The much anticipated sequel is due out here in the US and in the UK December 13th. Jackson told the UK paper the Telegraphthe good thing with the second movie is that you don’t have to start the movie, you don’t have to introduce characters, we’re just dropping straight into the last film, it’s the chapter where everything get more complicated, more danger and more excitement.” Click the link below to watch the trailer on our DaysTune Trailer page.
