Flashback Friday: 2004 Number One Song Outkast “Hey Ya”

It’s been a decade now since Outkast had us snapping our fingers and swaying side to side to their number one hit, “Hey Ya”. The upbeat, infectious song written and sung by André 3000, held the number one spot on Billboards Hot 100 for nine consecutive weeks. The track, off of Andre’s 2003 album The Love Below released as a double album (Speakerboxxx/The Love Below) from hip-hop duo Outkast, made up of Andre 3000 (Andre Benjamin) and fellow rapper Big Boi (Antwan Patton).

The music video, directed by Bryan Barber won Video of the Year, Best Hip-Hop Video, Best Special Effects, and Best Art Direction, at the 2004 MTV Video Music Awards and features Andre 3000 playing all eight members of The Love Below band. Ten years later, the video and song are just as much fun as ever.
