The Voice Winner Craig Wayne Boyd Makes Chart History With Debut Single

The Voice winner Craig Wayne Boyd made Country music history this week, when his winning single debuted at number one on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart. The single, “My Baby’s Got A Smile On Her Face” was originally given to his coach Blake Shelton, who had kept it for years, but never recorded it. Boyd makes history, being only the second artist to debut at number one on the Country chart, with Garth Brooks leading the way back in 2007.

The Voice season seven winner beat out Country superstars Tim McGraw and Carrie Underwood for the number one spot. McGraw’s “Shotgun Rider”, which has been on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart for 14 weeks and held the #1 spot last week, took a step back to second place. Carrie Underwood moved down respectfully to the third position with her hit, “Something In The Water”. It’s been present for the past 13 weeks.

The Billboard Hot Country Songs chart has been recording hits since 1958 and that makes this most recent accomplishment quite impressive. Garth Brooks hit the bulls-eye with his song, “More Than A Memory” in 2007.

Craig Wayne Boyd has set the bar high for himself debuting at number one. He will make his debut on January 3rd on Opry At The Ryman, at Nashville’s Grand ‘Ole Opry. Winning The Voice awarded him the cash prize of $100,000 and a record deal with Nashville’s Dot Records. His debut album is expected out in 2015.
