Starring Hugh Jackman as captain Blackbeard and newcomer Levi Miller as Pan, director Joe Wright (“Atonement,” “Pride & Prejudice”) brings an epic adventure story that explores the origins of this young hero and Neverlands famous characters.

The studio pushed the original release date ahead to the Fall back in the Spring, to insure that the movie would get a good run and not be lost in the flow of Summer blockbusters. With the weather changing and people coming back in doors, Fall and Winter movies that involve the family usually do well. That said, reviews thus far for the film have been less than favorable.

Variety’s Andrew Barker wrote “Stripping all whimsy and wonder from the Peter Pan story, Joe Wright’s prequel is a busy, bungled bust“. Robbie Collins at the UK’s The Telegraph, gave the movie four out of five stars, although he ended his review saying, “The phrase “an eight-year-old could have thought of it” sounds like it should be an insult. But it isn’t here“.

The Hollywood Reporter wrote, “the film becomes a seriously extended chase that possesses hefty CGI-propelled dynamics but absolutely no suspense and a very limited sense of fun” and Rotten Tomatoes gave it 2 and a half stars out of five.
