Leonardo DiCaprio Gets Called A Hypocrite For Expanding His Own Carbon Footprint

No, say it isn’t so!. The “climate change” man himself, Leonardo DiCaprio appears to have contributed to global warming by expanding his own carbon footprint. According to news reports this week, the actor and environmentalist boarded a private jet to fly around 8,000-miles from France to New York and back again; all to accept an award for his environmental work.

It is reported that Leo left the Cannes Film Festival earlier in the week via private jet, to fly to New York where he received the award at the Riverkeeper Fishermen’s Ball. Appearing to have then flew back to France to speak at the amfAR Cinema Against AIDS gala.

The 41-year-old, who founded the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation in 1998 has been criticized before for using private jets for travel. For this particular event, outlets are reporting that he actually hitched a ride along with someone who was already going to New York from France.

The reason for the uproar, we assume, is due to the constant preaching by celebrities and environmentalist like Leo, about the damage done to the environment through the use of carbon fuel burning vehicles. Located on the LDF (Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation) website is a paragraph about the organization’s work, which expands on this very issue:

After centuries of exponential population growth and the creation of unsustainable industrial development models driven by dirty, carbon-intensive fuels, we have radically altered not just the face of the planet but our climate. Many scientists believe that we have just five years to reverse the trend of rapidly increasing pollution and encroachment on vitally important terrestrial and marine ecosystems.

It is important to note as well, along with Leo’s apparent transgression in using jets to fly around the world, is that the Hollywood superstar has raised quite a bit of money for causes that work to help protect wildlife. According to the LDF, they have “built a significant grantmaking operation, awarding over $30 million since 2010 to fund 78 high-impact projects in more than 44 countries”.

The question that those looking on must ask themselves, is whether Leonardo using carbon-fueled transportation really making him a hyporcite? The reason for the quick name calling and finger pointing may be due to zeal that the Renevant star exhibits in his speeches, in which he calls for their end.

Just last month (April), DiCaprio addressed the United Nations on Earth Day where he called on world leaders to increase their efforts to fight climate change. Leo was quite specific about the dangers of fossil fuel in particular when he stated, “No more excuses. No more ten-year studies. No more allowing the fossil fuel companies to manipulate and dictate the science and policies that effect our future…”, including “The world is now watching. You will either be lauded by future generations, or vilified by them” (LDF).

It appears that the world was also watching, when Leo boarded that jet to New York.
